Moldova, officially the Republic of Moldova (Romanian: Republica Moldova), is a landlocked country in Eastern Europe, bordered by Romania to the west and Ukraine to the north, east, and south. The capital city is Chișinău.
Moldova declared independence on August 27, 1991, following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. The current Constitution of Moldova was adopted in 1994. A strip of Moldovan territory on the east bank of the Dniester River has been under the de facto control of the breakaway government of Transnistria since 1990.
Moldova is a parliamentary republic with a president as head of state and a prime minister as head of government. It is a member state of the United Nations, the Council of Europe, the World Trade Organization (WTO), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development, and the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC).
The Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU and the European Atomic Energy Community and their Member States was signed on June 27, 2014, in Brussels, Belgium. The signing followed the agreement's initialing at the Vilnius Summit of the Eastern Partnership, held on November 28-29, 2013. During the European Council on June 23, 2022, EU leaders granted EU candidate status to Moldova.
Moldova has a moderately continental climate. Its proximity to the Black Sea results in mildly cold autumn and winter seasons and relatively cool spring and summer periods. Summers are warm and long, with temperatures averaging about 20°C (68°F), while winters are relatively mild and dry, with January temperatures averaging −4°C (25°F). Annual rainfall ranges from approximately 600 mm (24 in) in the north to 400 mm (16 in) in the south and can vary greatly. The heaviest rainfall occurs in early summer and again in October.
Moldova is a European country with a long history within the Romanian state, populated mainly by Moldovans (Romanians), as well as various ethnic groups including Ukrainians, Bulgarians, Gagauz, Russians, Jews, Germans, and Czechs. Many centuries-old traditions have been preserved, which can be found throughout Moldova and in Romania, featuring elements common to Christian peoples of Eastern Europe. Traditional Moldovan events represent an amalgam of agricultural, pastoral, religious, and civil elements—a mixture that has become a permanent source of goodwill, warmth, and hospitality.

Undergraduate studies – August 30
Doctoral studies – November 25
Language studies – Al lthe year round
International students who do not speak Romanian or Russian must attend background training courses, while candidates who speak Romanian or Russian shall pass a language level test. The procedure is similar for applicants choosing to study in English.
Our institution offers intensive training courses for a preliminary year of study for international students. The preparatory year lasts eight months and is divided into two semesters with a two-week Christmas holiday. Training courses are specially created for international students who do not speak Romanian or Russian. To be enrolled in the preparatory year, it is not required to have basic knowledge of Romanian or Russian, as the courses provide thorough training even for those who have no language skills at all.
The curriculum for language courses includes three study levels of Romanian or Russian during the entire study period. During the second semester, students will update their knowledge in mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, and specific terminology of their future specialty. At the preparatory courses, students will become acquainted with the training system at our institution, meet future professors, and attend courses with already enrolled students to learn about the teaching, learning, and evaluation methods applied.
For enrollment in the preparatory year, international students must obtain permission from the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova. The deadline for preparatory study year application is August 30, and the applicant must present the same documents as for enrollment in undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate studies.
At the beginning of each academic year, international students must pay tuition fees (to be confirmed), which depend on the chosen study program and year of study. If a student does not pay his/her tuition fee, he/she is not transferred to the next academic year and is not admitted to exams. Tuition fees do not include expenses related to document legalization and issuance of the residence permit in the Republic of Moldova, medical insurance, travel tickets, visas, etc. International students can use the university's library, sports halls, and other facilities free of charge.
